Its products cater to the masses but are written by professionals.

Apple’s writing style is famously minimalist — but it’s not just a writing style: It’s an ethos, a philosophy of how the company wants its products to be used.

Apple’s corporate website says that “everything we do must be simple, elegant and intuitive.” That simplicity extends to Apple’s marketing materials and support documentation.

And while this may seem like an arbitrary aesthetic choice by Apple CEO Tim Cook, it serves as a guiding principle for how Apple employees approach product development. In fact, there are plenty of good reasons why companies should strive for simplicity in their writing — including increased comprehension rates, improved user experience and reduced support costs.
