5 Rules of Leadership
Leaders should be like a tour guide
Often, leaders have a management mindset that focuses on attacking and solving problems. The short-term results of doing this are great, but it saps the energy of the team.
Instead, refocus on the positive.
The following are 5 rules for leadership that will help you and your team create a positive atmosphere where everyone feels like they’re winning.
Start with why
You have to start with why. Even if you don’t explain why your team will ask that.
Your big picture won’t be clear to them.
Embrace Feedback
An effective feedback loop is essential. Acknowledge it openly, evaluate it critically, and then act judiciously.
Learning comes only from feedback. Encouragement forces you to keep going.
Over years of leading, I’ve come to realize that the most important thing is to keep the feedback loop going.
Empower your team
A successful team should run at auto-pilot mode. Everyone knows their roles and doesn’t need your help.
The goal of leaders should be to make themselves redundant so that they can move on to something bigger & better.
