Don’t be the Glue
Moving into a new role as project manager, it’s always been my focus to create a work environment of comfort and empowerment. Becoming a single point of failure is a framework of failure.
So, what are the three things you can do to avoid becoming the glue?
- Framework for success — Firstly, you need to be the window opener and show out the success framework. What are the steps needs to show success? For example, write down all the steps necessary for the work to be completed as outlined by the team themselves, and then the team follows it. Next, allow the unit to commit and then sit back.
- Empower others — Evaluate the activities where you’re engaged, and then check if someone else can do that. If yes, allow the team member to do alike. Ensure that he is knowledgeable, has the confidence and eagerness to do so, and then help the member.
- Be the last man standing — Step to avoid being the glue to let the process flow of its own. But if there is an emergency, then you, as project manager, be the last-minute standing. Be it at out of office working hours, or if you know your team is working late, make sure they know they have the manager’s backing.
Being a glue is an enticing thing as the manager and might give you instant satisfaction being productive, but you are making the team dependent on you. be the non-playing captain where the unit runs on its own. Then, you can move on to focus on bigger and better things(make customer happy).
Live your Ikigai. Have a great week ahead.

In work-from-home mode, we all chat virtually for the whole day via Teams. To go back to an older message and reply to an inline comment, Team’s have launched this new feature.
To reply to a specific message, hover over the particular message you want to reply to and then click the ellipsis (. . .) icon. Select the “Reply” option from the list, type your message with the reply embedded and send it. Users will also be able to click on the original quoted message to move to that specific location in the chat history directly. This should eliminate the need to go through the entire conversation manually.
