Communicate your idea via a 3-step storyline

Change is inevitable. Storyline works.

I’m going to explain the communication strategy via the below stages —

  • 1. Where we are: why we must change
  • 2. Where are we going: impact for the audience
  • 3. How will we get there: how can the audience help you

1. Where we are: why we must change

The first part is to explain where we are currently and why we need to change. It’s important to clarify where we stand; it’s to explain the current situation, the pros and cons, and the current status, whether we are happy or sad about it.

2. Where are we going: impact for the audience

Next, is where are we going? What do you want to change, and why us want to change. The most critical point to highlight is to pick how it impacts you all. Once they know how it affects them, they will determine if it aligns with their view.

Do note that no one wants to change no one wants to come out of their comfort zone; hence you have to bring them on the journey.

3. How will we get there: how can the audience help you

The third part of the story is how we will communicate when we are telling a new idea. You have to give a vision, how you plan or think you will get there. It’s essential to engage the audience in the journey.

Of course, there will be some contradiction; in the beginning, there will be pushback, but you need to navigate through it to reach the end goal
